Vol. 5 No. S1 (2021): Special Issue : The role and importance of iron
The Special Issue of World Nutrition Journal (Volume 5, Supplement 1, July 2021) presents a comprehensive collection of articles focused on the critical role of iron in public health, growth, and development, with particular emphasis on its relevance in the Indonesian context. Iron deficiency and iron deficiency anemia continue to pose major global and national public health challenges, impacting maternal health, child development, and cognitive outcomes. This issue brings together original research and evidence-based reviews that examine the prevalence, determinants, and consequences of iron deficiency across life stages, including maternal and fetal health, children’s growth and cognitive development, optimization of iron adequacy and absorption, and related factors among working adults. Key contributions highlight both scientific insights and practical considerations for improving iron status through diet, fortification, and targeted interventions.
We gratefully acknowledge Dr. Dian Permatasari, M.Gizi, SpGK as the Guest Editor for this Special Issue. Under her editorial leadership, this supplement underscores the importance of iron research in addressing persistent nutritional gaps and advancing evidence-based strategies to improve population health.
